Farmer's Market Summer 2009 Artist Series

Saturday morning is for sleep'n in. Not here in Port Townsend, especially when there's such an active local Farmer's Market.

Sure there's the wonderful greens and other great eating treats, but there are other treats in store. This week I discovered a local artist, Douglas Selley Byrd (goes by "Selley"), whose talents express the Port Townsend I love. Here's the one I selected which he painted from a scene at the Wooden Boat Festival. Take a moment and see him at the market on Saturdays or see more of his work at www.yessy.com/douglasbyrd.

Farmer's Market - Port Townsend

The Port Townsend Farmers Market 2009 season opened with festivities of all kinds. Children dressed as faeries performed acrobatics as well as a scene from Shakespeare’s “ Midsummer Night’s Dream” while a mysterious white pony munched oats under a shade tree.

Video interviews of local vendors, Seagrass and Solum & Herbe and additional Market scenes will be posted soon on ouropenmedia.com and porttownsendmedia.com .

Port Townsend’s own celebration of May Day continued with a Maypole Dance involving dozens of children accompanied by fiddle and bagpipe. “Southbound” and Jack Reid and Mike Mullins of “Water Street Trolley” played music.

Beautiful girls dressed in cabaret costume strolled through the Market to promote the simply fabulous Port Townsend High School production of “Chicago”. It seems like everyone was having a great time, including local musical treasure, Andy Mackie.

Heather Pollack of Seagrass Candles makes all her soy candles by hand with essential oil. The fragrances are out of this world and it is worth a trip to the Farmers Market just to enjoy the fragrances that Heather conjures. (video  3:01)

Susan Parker is the founder of SOLUM & HERBE, a health and beauty product line carefully developed using ingredients that are natural to the body. She has over fifteen years experience as an herbalist.

Japanese Dining in Victorian Port Townsend

"Best Japanese Food " 2007, 2008, 2009 Peninsula Daily News

We recently had a most enjoyable dinner in a very unique restaurant in Victorian Port Townsend. Unfortunately we were only a party of two so we weren't able to have our feast in the authentic Tea Room.  We chose instead to sit at the bar and enjoy all the going's on as the evening meals were being prepared.

The heart of any restaurant is the chef and this is especially true for the delicate preparation of Japanses cuisine.  Chef Peter Nakamura has trained for over 20 years to bring to you an authentic experience.

For our dinner we selected a house favorite, Tarakasu - sake marinated black cod. This is truly a delight. Its one of those times that even as you are taking a bite you're are wondering when you will be able to steal back for another adventure in this pleasure.

How about a visit to your local Farmer's Market. Locally grown and fresh from the field.

This is Port Townsend's Wednesday Market in the Uptown section of Town.

Not everything is about vegetables...

As they say, getting there is half the fun and for this one, its also half of a parking space.
